PIKEVILLE, KY, June 25 — The Pikeville Community Foundation recently awarded three EKY Health Occupation Scholarships totaling $5,000 to three students pursuing a career in the medical field. The EKY Health Occupation Scholarship was inspired by three physicians with Eastern Kentucky ties that wanted to give back and it provides scholarship opportunities for students who plan on studying and obtaining health-related degrees.
The students receiving the scholarships in 2025 are Aidan Cassady, MaKenna Justice, and Katie Stiles. Cassady is a graduate of Pikeville High School and will be receiving $2,000 toward his education at UPike Optometry School. Justice is a graduate of Belfry High School and will be receiving $1,000 toward her education at University of Louisville Medical School. Stiles will be receiving $2,000 toward her education in the UPike Nursing Program.
“Education is a priority for our community foundation and many of our donors, and this scholarship holds special significance. It was inspired by three physicians who grew up in eastern Kentucky and are now giving back by creating opportunities for our local students. We hope their generosity inspires others to support our local students and invest in their futures,” said Brad Slone, Chair of the Pikeville Community Foundation.
The East Kentucky Health Occupation Scholarships can be awarded to high school seniors or those accepted into a doctoral or master’s health-related program that have graduated from a Pike County high school or Betsy Layne High School.
