FLOYD COUNTY, KY, Aug. 31 — The Floyd County Community Foundation (FCCF) awarded a $2,500 grant to the Floyd County Fiscal Court to support the county’s Cash for Trash program, an initiative that combines community service, environmental cleanup, and fundraising opportunities for local civic and school groups.
The FCCF grant was matched with an additional $2,500 from the Highlands Foundation. Together, those funds were then matched by a private donor, bringing the total funding available for the program to $10,000.
Cash for Trash provides an opportunity for civic organizations and school groups to raise money while helping keep Floyd County’s roadsides and communities clean. Participating groups receive $100 per mile of trash collected and may clear up to five miles, providing the potential to earn as much as $500 for their organization. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office also plays an important role in the program by providing security for participants as they work along roadways collecting trash.
“We are proud to support a program that brings people together to make a visible difference in Floyd County while also helping local civic and school groups raise money for their organizations,” said Ellen Harris, chair of the Floyd County Community Foundation. “It is a wonderful example of what can happen when community partners come together and leverage their resources. A $2,500 grant from the community foundation ultimately helped generate $10,000 for this important effort.”
Harris added that the program reflects the community foundation’s commitment to supporting projects that strengthen Floyd County and encourage community involvement.
“Cash for Trash is about more than picking up litter,” Harris said. “It gives young people and community members an opportunity to take pride in where they live, work together, and see the direct impact of their efforts. We are grateful to the Highlands Foundation and the private donor for helping us multiply the impact of this grant.”
The Floyd County Community Foundation is proud to partner with the Floyd County Fiscal Court, Highlands Foundation, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, local civic organizations, and school groups to support a cleaner, stronger Floyd County.
