Nationally Accredited Community Foundation Joins Millions Around the World in a Global Generosity Movement
November, 2025 — This GivingTuesday, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky aims to inspire generosity throughout Appalachian Kentucky by uplifting and strengthening their 12 affiliate community foundations. Using #GiveAppKY, their goal is to show that generosity is alive and strong in this region. This is a chance to celebrate generosity, gratitude, and the powerful difference our communities can make together.
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on December 2, 2025, and throughout the year.
For the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, GivingTuesday is a chance to celebrate what makes this region so special: the way people care for one another, step up in times of need, and invest in their own communities through the Foundation’s 12-member affiliate network. With affiliates in twenty counties across the region (Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Clinton, Estill, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Menifee, Perry, Pikeville, Powell, Whitley, and Wolfe), the Foundation is shifting control back into the hands of local leaders. Affiliates are like mini foundations, representing a specific area within Appalachian Kentucky, with local boards addressing community needs. By supporting these affiliates, donors are supporting the nonprofit ecosystem in that area.
GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past ten years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets billions of impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities. On GivingTuesday in 2024, a record-breaking $3.6 billion was donated in the US alone, which brings the sum of GivingTuesday donations since its launch in 2012 to more than $18.5 billion.
“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO and co-founder. “With 80 country leaders, hundreds of community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
As you plan your end-of-year giving, consider making a gift now through December 2 for GivingTuesday and using #GiveAppKY to spread the word.
