PIKEVILLE, KY, June 25 — The Pikeville Community Foundation awarded scholarships totaling $20,000 to Shelby Valley High School seniors during their awards ceremony on May 19, 2025. The scholarships were funded by the Woodrow and Evelyn Johnson Scholarship Fund, advised by the Pikeville Community Foundation, and held at the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky.
At the award ceremony, Helena Jackson, Pikeville Community Foundation vice chair, and Rick Newsom, Pikeville Community Foundation board member, presented the scholarships to nine students:
Sean Anderson – $1,000
Addison Burke – $1,500
Emily Compton – $3,000
Brock Damron – $1,500
Matthew Emons – $4,000
Mahala Honaker – $2,000
Lakin Rauth – $2,000
Lindsay Reed – $2,000
Kaitlyn Taylor – $3,000
“We are pleased to support the promising future of our community’s youth,” said Brad Slone, Pikeville Community Foundation chair. “These scholarships represent our ongoing commitment to invest in the next generation, and we are honored to uphold Linda Templeton’s wish to assist Shelby Valley High School seniors as they take the next steps toward their educational goals.”
The Woodrow and Evelyn Johnson fund was set up by Linda Johnson Templeton with the hope to support graduating students from Shelby Valley High School and make a meaningful difference in their lives. The scholarships are renewable for up to four years while pursuing a post-secondary degree, remaining in good standing, and maintaining a specific GPA.
