What is GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday is a global giving day that promotes and celebrates generosity in all its forms. It inspires millions to give their time, talents, or treasure on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

What Is a
Community Campaign?

A community campaign is a group of people and organizations working together to rally a geographical area around a day of generosity. Give Appalachian Kentucky’s goal is to help charitable organizations and communities in our region leverage the power of GivingTuesday. When the region comes together to support local nonprofits, everyone benefits! Give Appalachian Kentucky is the first-ever community campaign designed specifically for our region.

What Does Participation Look Like?

When you register to participate in the Give Appalachian Kentucky (#GiveAppKY) community campaign, you become part of a larger whole. You are joining together with a community of fellow Appalachian Kentucky nonprofits that are lifting each other up. Towns with community campaigns consistently engage 85% more donors and raise 90% more in donations (per capita) than those without one. GivingTuesday is proof that a rising tide lifts all boats!

After registration closes, you will receive a toolkit with the #GiveAppKY logo, social media graphics to share, outreach templates, and more. These tools are designed to help you make the most out of the campaign, and to help ease the burden that comes with asking your audience to give.

Your nonprofit will be listed on our GivingTuesday landing page, as part of our “Giving Menu.” We will display your logo, a short description of your organization, and your donation link. This means that anyone who visits this page on or leading up to GivingTuesday will see your nonprofit and have the opportunity to make a donation — even if they may not have heard of your nonprofit before.

Each registered nonprofit that actively participates in the #GiveAppKY campaign will also receive an equal share of our “Spread the Love” fund, with the potential to receive additional financial benefits from the Foundation’s campaign sponsors.

FAQs

How do I register?

Registration opens on September 1, 2026! The registration link will be located on this page, so check back here after registration opens.

Can my nonprofit encourage physical donations along with monetary ones?

Yes! When you register, you can tell us if you have an address for people to send/deliver physical donations to. We will include this information on our Giving Menu.

How often will I hear from you once I’m registered?

We will send out weekly emails leading up to GivingTuesday with resources, tips, and more. We will also be hosting the #GiveAppKY Hump Day Huddle each Wednesday at 10am leading up to GivingTuesday. These sessions are a time to check in, receive support, and get inspiration. You are also welcome to reach out to our team any time with questions!

Is GivingTuesday only for large nonprofits?

Not at all! GivingTuesday is the perfect opportunity for smaller nonprofits to get their name out there and gain new supporters by leveraging the power of a global day of generosity.

How will my nonprofit stand out on GivingTuesday?

You might be worried that there is so much noise on GivingTuesday that your campaign will get lost. But according to GivingTuesday, December 1st “isn’t about competing — it’s about inspiring generosity.” You can make your campaign stand out by sharing impactful stories from your work — those stories are unique to your nonprofit. And as part of the #GiveAppKY campaign, your efforts are multiplied! The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky has learned that nonprofits tend to raise more on GivingTuesday than they do otherwise.

Will participating in GivingTuesday hurt my end-of-year giving campaign?

The short answer is no. GivingTuesday data shows that “80% of people who donate throughout the year and on GivingTuesday give again before the year ends, and most GivingTuesday donors seek more opportunities to contribute throughout the year.” Donors who give to your nonprofit on GivingTuesday are likely to look for more opportunities to give again! And if you are considering participating in GivingTuesday for the first time this year, integrating GivingTuesday into your end-of-year campaign is a great way to get started.

How is the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky connected to GivingTuesday?

Six members of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky’s staff were chosen to be part of GivingTuesday’s inaugural Community Campaign Accelerator cohort, which is designed to give community foundations the tools to help nonprofits leverage the power of the GivingTuesday movement.

#GiveAppKY Hump Day Huddles

Leading up to GivingTuesday, we will host bi-weekly #GiveAppKY Hump Day Huddles. These sessions will take place virtually every other Wednesday at 10am. You can bring any questions or ideas you might have to these sessions and receive personalized support from our team! These sessions are also a great opportunity to get ideas from other nonprofits also participating in the campaign. After registration closes, you will receive the link to join these sessions.

Campaign Ideas

We encourage nonprofits participating in #GiveAppKY to put their own spin on the campaign and pursue creative ideas to encourage generosity in Appalachian Kentucky! These campaign examples, compiled by GivingTuesday, may inspire ideas for your approach to #GiveAppKY.
