Chestnut Ridge Update

Update on Chestnut Ridge Housing

Share on:

[LEBURN, KY, April 22] — Work has begun on a temporary road that will be used to begin construction on the Chestnut Ridge neighborhood in Knott County. This neighborhood is being developed for those in need of housing after the Eastern Kentucky floods. The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky received 27 acres of land from partners in the coal industry and aims to jumpstart the development of over 100 acres acquired by Team Kentucky for “higher ground” development after the flood. The Foundation granted individual lots of this land to housing partners dedicated to providing new homes for Eastern Kentucky flood victims. The temporary road at Chestnut Ridge will help construction proceed smoothly as the homes are built.

The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky already has a contractor in place to begin grading the entire site and preparing the individual lots for construction once the temporary road is complete. Knott County also has a contractor in place to begin work on the water and sewer lines, which will be coordinated with the grading and the home builders. The timeline for construction on individual homes in Chestnut Ridge is dependent on these necessary steps being completed. The anticipated timeline for individual home construction to begin is by the fall, with the goal of building 56 homes in this phase of the subdivision’s development.

The following photo displays the allocation of lots that the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky granted to Samaritan’s Purse, HOMES, Inc., Appalachian Service Project, and the Housing Development Alliance.

Site Development Plan

The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is a 501(c)(3) non-profit created by and for the people of Appalachian Kentucky. Their goal is to help make a positive impact on the Appalachian region through community building and philanthropy. The Foundation approaches grantmaking from a commitment to keeping the power, wealth, and decisions with people rooted in these communities; by sharing experience and expertise, it provides a platform for communities to speak for themselves.
